Sister Marie Inez Gonzales, OSF

Aston, PA

Sister Marie Inez Gonzales, OSF (formerly Sister Mary Alacoque), died in Assisi House on June 19. She was 85.

She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 66 years. She was born Consuella Philomena in La Union, New Mexico, and was a member of St. John Parish in Wasco, California, when she entered the congregation in 1950. She professed her first vows in 1953. She earned a BA in Education from Fort Wright College in Spokane. She ministered primarily in elementary education and Hispanic ministry.

She ministered for 17 years in the Diocese of San Diego serving at Our Lady of Guadalupe School and Mission San Antonio de Pala. She also spent 13 years in the Diocese of Spokane as a teacher at St. Charles School and as a student at St. Ann’s.

Her assignment in Portland, Oregon, spanned nine years where she worked in Hispanic ministry at St. Luke Parish in Woodburn. She also spent nine years in the Fresno Diocese where she worked as a volunteer at Palm Avenue School in Wasco and was a caregiver to family members. In her nine years in the San Bernardino Diocese she ministered at St. Edward’s Parish in Corona. Her additional ministry included one year at St. Stephen’s Mission in Wyoming.

She moved to St. Ann Covent in Tacoma in 2011 where she served in prayer ministry. When that closed in 2018, she moved to the sister’s retirement home on the east coast, Assisi House, where she served in prayer and hospitality ministry until her death.

She is survived by her sisters, Mary Ann Gonzales and Emily Romo; a niece; and by her Franciscan family.

Services were held in Assisi House on June 24 with burial at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.



Dorothy Pellegrino Herman


Dorothy M. Herman passed away June 19. She was 92.

She was born in Spring Valley, Illinois on July 17, 1926 to Amelia and Salvatore Pellegrino. The Pellegrino family moved to Renton in 1928 where she resided until 2015 when she moved to Kitsap County to be closer to family. She was a lifelong member of Saint Anthony Catholic Church and attended the parish school. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and with the altar society.

She met her husband, Michael Herman at the Swedish Club in Seattle and they were married in the original (old) St. Anthony Church in September of 1949. They had three children and later divorced. She enjoyed serving at her parish and gardening. She tended the flowers and rose garden at St. Anthony’s Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Salvatore and Amelia; brothers Joseph, Frank and Richard; and sister Eleanor. She is survived by her brothers Anthony and Sam; sister Lorraine; five grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Anthony Church in Renton on June 28, 2019 at 10:00 am.
