“Josie is a positive, kind, and loving young lady,” said nominator Maureen McDaid-Fraizer. She’s the president of the National Honor Society, is active in leadership, plays soccer, volleyball, basketball and track, and carries a 4.5 weighted GPA, all while commuting an hour to and from school. She’s a parishioner at St. Mary in Castle Rock, where she’s an acolyte and altar server coordinator.

Sam Colgan

Kennedy Catholic High School

A 4.0 student, Sam is the vice president of the school symphonic band and is involved in Knowledge Bowl and the National Honor Society. A member of Seattle’s Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, he also tutors kids from low-income and immigrant families in math and grammar through the Youth Tutoring Program. He considers the work a blessing and said it’s as if he has gained new siblings.

In each edition through June, Northwest Catholic will honor students for their achievements and contributions in the classroom, in their extracurricular activities, and in their churches and communities. At the end of the school year, two Students of the Year will be selected to receive $1,000 Northwest Catholic scholarships.
