“Mary is one of the most faithful young adults I have ever met,” said Principal Barbara Swann. Her mother died while she was a student at Holy Family School in Kirkland. “She always kept her faith in God and knew he would take care of her and her brothers,” Swann said. Mary is an altar server and softball player, and she was selected as the religion department’s Student of the Year.

“William is outgoing and brings school spirit everywhere he goes,” said nominator Sofia Lopez. A committed member of the Kennedy Catholic band, he also plays water polo and serves as captain of the lacrosse team, senior class coordinator and retreat leader. He volunteers extensively at his parish, Holy Rosary in West Seattle, and at the Union Gospel Mission.

In each edition through June, Northwest Catholic will honor students for their achievements and contributions in the classroom, in their extracurricular activities, and in their churches and communities. At the end of the school year, two Students of the Year will be selected to receive $1,000 Northwest Catholic scholarships.
