Are you called?
The Archdiocese of Seattle is inviting Catholic men ages 31–56 to discern whether they might be called to the permanent diaconate. An informational meeting will be held Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church in Woodinville. Applications will be available Aug. 10. For more information, visit www.seattlearchdiocese.org/pdv.
Forming Intentional Disciples retreat
Jesuit Father Bill Watson will lead a retreat on “Forming Intentional Disciples in Your Parish” Aug. 10–12 at the Archbishop Brunett Retreat Center at the Palisades in Federal Way. Father Watson, president of the Sacred Story Institute (and a former Northwest Catholic columnist), will discuss how his “Forty Weeks” program can help parishes carry out the New Evangelization. To register, visit palisadesretreatcenter.org.
Holy day of no obligation
Since the feast falls on a Saturday this year, you don’t need to go to Mass for the Assumption, Aug. 15, which is usually a holy day of obligation. But it’s still a great time to celebrate that the Virgin Mary, “when the course of her earthly life was completed, was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven, where she already shares in the glory of her Son’s Resurrection, anticipating the resurrection of all members of his Body.” (CCC 974)
Faith on Fire
St. Mary Parish in Anacortes will host the Faith on Fire Catholic Family Conference July 31–Aug. 2. Speakers will include Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, and Auxiliary Bishop Eusebio Elizondo will celebrate the closing Mass. For more information, visit stmaryanacortes.org/FaithFormation/FaithOnFire.
