Remembering the recently deceased in the Archdiocese of Seattle

Pauline Roller HaagensonAUBURN

Pauline Haagenson, a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Federal Way, died Aug. 10. She was 90. 

She was born and raised in Dickenson, North Dakota, and moved to Western Washington from Albuquerque, New Mexico, almost 50 years ago. She worked as a homemaker, seamstress and spray painter for Boeing.

She was a member of the Sons of Norway, Eagles Auxiliary and Disabled American Veterans. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and world travel.

Survivors include her husband, Chester Haagenson; son, David Joseph; daughters, Sandra Hawley and Mary Hill; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. 

Interment is at Gethsemane Cemetery in Federal Way.

Sister Mary Munch, RSCJATHERTON, California

Sister Mary Munch, a member of the Society of the Sacred Heart, died at Oakwood, the Society of the Sacred Heart’s elder care center, on Aug. 12. She was 90. 

She was born in Omaha, Nebraska. During high school she was diagnosed with polio but was able to recover and graduate with her class. She attended Duchesne College in Omaha, which was operated by the Society of the Sacred Heart, and entered the novitiate at Kenwood in Albany, New York, in 1945. She pronounced her first vows in 1947. 

She taught at schools in Omaha and Lake Forest, Illinois. She later received training in spiritual direction and practiced in Wisconsin, Minnesota, New York and Seattle. Upon retiring after a serious car accident, she joined the Kenwood community in Albany was a librarian, gardener and artist. 

She was preceded in death by her sisters Frances Hadley, Joan Henry and Virginia Engler.

She is survived by her brothers, Henry and Fred Munch; sisters Marjorie Carlson, Cecilia McColley and Sacred Heart Sister Patricia Munch; and numerous nieces and nephews, grand- and great-grandnieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Sept. 5 at the Oakwood Chapel in Atherton, California.

Victor UhrichSEATTLE

Victor Uhrich, a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish, died June 29. He was 86.

He was born in Billings, Montana, and relocated to the Seattle area as a young boy. He graduated from O’Dea High School and Seattle University, with a degree in accounting.

He worked in retail his entire career, including at Sears and the Bon Marche in personnel and labor relations, before retiring in 1993. 

He enjoyed time with family and friends, tennis, sporting events and woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Holly.

Survivors include his sons, Robert, Tim and Joe; daughters, Colleen and Jeannine; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Josephine Button. 

A funeral Mass was celebrated July 9 at Blessed Sacrament Church.
