Remembering the recently deceased in the Archdiocese of Seattle

Sister Miriam Patrice Hausman, OSFASTON, PENNSYLVANIA

Sister Miriam Patrice Hausman, a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 56 years, died February 6 at the Assisi House in Aston, Pennsylvania. She was 77.

She was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania. In 1956 she entered the congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia and professed her first vows on 1959. Over the years Sister Miriam earned a bachelor’s degree in history, a master’s degree in chemistry, a master’s degree in secondary-school counseling and a director/specialist certification for older adults. In 2005 she received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Allentown Central Catholic High School. Her ministry was dedicated to elementary and secondary education, and in pastoral ministry, particularly in gerontology. 

She ministered 31 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia including as a teacher, administration of Assisi House in Aston, director of social services and pastoral assistant.

Sister Miriam also ministered for 15 years in the Diocese of Allentown and in the Archdiocese of Seattle as administrator of St. Ann Convent in Tacoma.

She is survived by her niece, Lisa Helt.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Assisi House on February 13 in Aston, Pennsylvania.

Elizabeth Kloster Liddle

SEATTLE

Elizabeth Liddle, a member of St. Bridget Parish in Seattle, died January 22 in Camarillo, California, of natural causes. She was 100.

She was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, and moved to Seattle from Juneau, Alaska. She was a homemaker and seamstress. She volunteered with the Catholic Daughters of America and various parish guilds. She also enjoyed traveling, sewing and crosswords.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William.

Survivors include her sons, Stuart and Douglas; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated February 28 at 1 p.m. at St. Bridget Church.

Margaret Sweeney MayovskySEATTLE

Margaret Mayovsky, a longtime member of St. Alphonsus Parish in Ballard, died January 17. She was 93.

She was born and spent her entire life in Seattle. She graduated from Holy Angels High School in 1938. She was a homemaker who also enjoyed reading and watching the Mariners.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; and her son, Gary.

Survivors include her son Daniel; daughters Linda, Theresa and Cathy; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated February 9 at St. Alphonsus Church.

Sister Phyllis Marie Taufen, SNJMSPOKANE 

Sister Phyllis Marie Taufen (Sister Marion Robert), a member of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, died February 13 at Hospice House in Spokane. She was 90.

She was born in Colton in Washington’s Palouse region. She entered the Holy Names Sisters in 1948, pronouncing her vows in 1950. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Holy Names College in Spokane in 1946, and a master’s degree in English from Gonzaga University.

As a lifetime educator, Sister Taufen taught eighth grade in Medford and Salem, Oregon and in Seattle and Spokane. She served as principal at St. Francis Cabrini School in Tacoma and at Assumption School in Seattle. In 1981 she began a 20-year career at Gonzaga University, where she was an English professor, a business school teacher a teacher in the School of Business, and received an honorary doctorate.

She is survived by her sister, Janet Weigelt, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated February 20 at 10 a.m. at the Convent of the Holy Names in Spokane.

Maureen Mary McGinley YoungSEATTLE

Maureen Young, a member of St. Joseph Parish in Capitol Hill, died December 29, 2014, of heart failure. She was 66.

She was born and raised in Seattle, where she graduated from Holy Names Academy in 1966. She was a hair stylist before retiring in 2008. She also enjoyed bowling, bingo and traveling.

She is survived by her husband, Earl; and her brothers, Hugh and James McGinley.

A committal service will be held March 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery.
