Carl Arends, a member of St. Mark Parish in Shoreline, died Dec. 27, of pneumonia. He was 88.

Born in Highmore, South Dakota, he lived the last 55 years in Washington. He attended Seattle University and served in the Air Force.

He enjoyed camping and RVing.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy; sons, Paul and David; daughters, Therese, Catherine and Anne; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was interred at Holyrood Cemetery.

Robert J. BrowneSEATTLE

Robert Brown, a member of St. Matthew Parish, died March 2, of congestive heart failure. He was 89.

A lifelong Seattleite, he attended St. Benedict School and O’Dea High School, and served in the Army. He worked in research and development at Boeing until 1989.

He enjoyed snow and water skiing, model railroading, camping and RVing and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary; and sister, Kathryn Basher.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Denise; sons, James and Stanley; daughters Karen Huber, Colleen Stier, Janet Henry, Patricia Holloway and Sarah Browne; sisters Erin Hundley and Bernadette Poole; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated March 11 at St. Matthew Church.
