Remembering the recently deceased in the Archdiocese of Seattle

Sister Patricia Josephine Daly, SNJM (Sister Isabel Mary Daly)SPOKANE

Sister Pat Daly, a member the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary for 71 years, died March 18. She was 90.

Born and raised in Seattle, she attended St. Anne School and Holy Names Academy. She entered the novitiate for the Sisters of the Holy Names on July 25, 1945, at Marylhurst, Oregon, and professed vows on Aug. 5, 1947. She received her Bachelor of Science in education through Holy Names College in Spokane and Marylhurst College. In 1965 she completed a Master of Science in education at Seattle University.

For 25 years, she served in parish schools in Washington and Oregon, including in Spokane, Seattle, Medford, Tacoma, Everett, Lake Oswego and Eugene.

In 1974 she moved to Kirkland to serve in parish ministry at Holy Family Parish. For the next 20 years, she served in parishes as far away as Whittier, California, as well as at Holy Rosary and St. Paul parishes in Seattle.

In 1997, she accepted the call to serve on the Washington Province Leadership Team. When her term was complete, she transitioned to Marie-Rose House in Wapato, assisting as house director and coordinator of ministries until returning to Seattle in 2005.

Her final years of ministry reflected her deep commitment to prayer, her religious community and its commitments to social justice and care for creation. She volunteered at Jubilee House, the Intercommunity Peace and Justice Center, and on committees at St. Joseph Parish in Seattle. She also worked to overturn the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, was committed to the SNJM Associates, journeyed with women discerning a religious vocation and enjoyed two monthly book groups. She moved to Brookdale South Regal in Spokane in March of 2016.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Isabelle Daly; and siblings, Helen Sexton, John Jr., James and Robert.

She is survived by her sisters-in-law Kay Daly and Kaye Anne Daly, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated March 25 at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Spokane.
