Remembering the recently deceased in the Archdiocese of Seattle

Anita Marie AlokolaroSEATTLE

Anita Norberg Alokolaro, a member of St. Matthew Parish, died April 19, of cancer. She was 60.

She was born and raised in Fargo, North Dakota. She moved to Washington state 36 years ago from Dilworth, Minnesota. She attended Seattle University.

She is survived by her daughters, Ann, Pauline and Rose; brothers, Brian and Patrick Norberg; sisters, Adele Brennan and Molly Norberg; and three grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated April 29 at St. Matthew Church.

Sister Rosemarie TerweyLACEY

Sister Rosemarie (formerly Oliver) Terwey, a member of the Sisters of St. Benedict, died May 4. She was 89.

She was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Following the death of her father, she was raised by Otto and Elizabeth Terwey. She entered St. Benedict’s Convent in St. Joseph, Minnesota, making her monastic profession in 1947. She taught four years in Minnesota before arriving in Tacoma in 1952. She completed her B.A. and teacher certification at Saint Martin’s College.

As a founding member of St. Placid Priory in 1952, she served the church as a teacher at Holy Rosary, Visitation and St. Ann schools in Tacoma and at St. Placid High School in Lacey. Sister Rosemarie staffed the Priory Wood Daycare and served as priory treasurer and vocation director. When the priory welcomed Benedictine sisters from Tanzania, she tutored them in math and science.

She also was involved in prison ministry at the Washington Corrections Center as well as jail ministry at the Thurston County Jail.

She was faithful to the Liturgy of the Hours and celebration of the Eucharist. She also enjoyed recreation with her sisters and annual visits from her cousin Margaret Korish.

She is survived by her sisters, Jean, Gwen, Marge and Janet; brother, Raymond; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated May 13 at St. Placid Priory.
