Robert J. Barrett

SEATTLE

Robert Barrett, a member of St. Joseph Parish, died October 18. He was 91.

Born in Seattle, he attended Laurelhurst Grade School, St Joseph Grade School, O’Dea High School and Seattle University. He served in the U.S. Army and worked for United Airlines as a reservation agent. He married his wife, Jeanne in 1952.

He enjoyed volunteer work, art and serving as a master gardener.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne; brother Francis and twin sister Rosemary Siderius.

He is survived by his sons, James and Jude; his daughters, Jeanne and Ann; and six grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated November 14 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Church, Seattle.

Sister Joan Campbell, SP

SEATTLE

Sister Joan Campbell, a Sister of Providence for 62 years, died November 4. She was 81.

Born in Seattle, she graduated from Holy Angels High School, Seattle University, the University of San Francisco and St. Mary’s College.

She entered the Sisters of Providence in 1955 at Mount St. Vincent and became a novice in 1956. She professed her first vows in 1957, received the name Sister Joanne, and professed her final vows in 1962.

She served as a teacher and principal for Catholic schools in Vancouver, Yakima, Seattle and Longview. In 1983 she began her service as chaplain at Western State Hospital in Steilacoom. She served in this role at other institutions through 2001. Upon retirement she volunteered as chaplain at the Heritage House in Seattle. She received numerous honors and awards for her work, meeting with Pope John Paul II to discuss the serious issue of incarceration in the world.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and sisters in community.

She was preceded in death by her brother John.

She is survived by her brother Patrick, and nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated November 9 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Residence, Seattle.
