Remembering the recently deceased in the Archdiocese of Seattle

Brittney D. (Watson) BurtTACOMA

Brittney Burt, a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, died Sept. 13, of a blood infection. She was 26.

Born in Burien, she was a lifelong Washington resident. She attended Sumner High School and lived the last five years in Tacoma.

She worked in retail and enjoyed reading, gardening and collecting elephants.

She was preceded in death by her father, Darren Watson.

She is survived by her husband, Cory; son, Ryan; daughters, Karma, Kendra and Darinn Lee; mother, Marti Valladao; and brother, Dylan Valladao.

She was interred Oct. 9 at Gethsemane Cemetery in Federal Way.

Sister Lois Murray, SP SEATTLE

Sister Lois Murray, a Sister of Providence for 38 years, died Oct. 5. She was 94.

She was born Los Angeles and attended Downey Union High School in Downey, California, graduating in 1940. She attended Principia College in Elsah, Illinois, graduating in 1946 with a degree in history and a minor in English. She also attended Long Beach Junior College in California.

In May of 1957 she joined the Great Falls Tribune and served as the society editor until 1962. From 1962 to 1965 she was director of public relations for the American Friends Service Committee in Philadelphia. In 1966 she returned to the Great Falls Tribune, where she worked as a general assignment reporter until 1981. Influenced by those she interviewed, she became a Catholic.

She entered the Sisters of Providence in September 1978 at Providence House in Seattle, and in September 1979 she became a novice. In August of 1981 she professed first vows at Mount St. Joseph in Spokane, and in June 1985 she professed final vows on the Fort Belknap Reservation in Harlem, Montana.

From 1982 to 1990 she served in pastoral ministry the Fort Belknap Reservation, and from 1990 to 1992 she served as editor of the Good News, a St. Ignatius Province publication. From 1992 to 1995 she was a ministry volunteer for the church in Great Falls, which included making home visits to parents of Indian children. In 1995 she retired to Mount St. Joseph, Spokane, where she maintained her interest in and passion for social justice and peace issues.

She enjoyed photography. In 2011 she moved to St. Joseph Residence in Seattle, where she enjoyed spending time with friends and her sisters in community.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Eleanor.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Residence.
