Remembering the recently deceased in the Archdiocese of Seattle

Marie Annette DahlgrenKIRKLAND

Marie Dahlgren, a member of Our Lady of Mount Virgin Parish in Seattle, died Aug. 21. She was 72.

Growing up in Seattle, she attended Our Lady of Mount Virgin School and Holy Names Academy. She worked for many years as an office coordinator.

She enjoyed cooking for family and friends. She was an award-winning equestrian and loved animals. She was also a skilled ballroom dancer and a longtime member of the Italian Club.

She is survived by her brother, Donald; children, Matthew and Sandra; and five grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 9 at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church.

Father Dominic Hahn KENT

Father Dominic Hahn died Sept. 4. He was 81.

Born in Edgemont, South Dakota, he attended Holy Rosary School in Tacoma, St. Edward Seminary in Kenmore, St. Martin’s University in Lacey and Mount Angel Seminary in Oregon.

He was ordained a Benedictine priest at St. Martin’s Abbey on June 27, 1980, and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Seattle on Nov. 1, 2004.

He served as pastor of the Proto-Cathedral of St. James the Greater in Vancouver (2005–11), St. Edward Parish in Shelton (1993–2005) and Sacred Heart Parish in Lacey (1984–85); and as parochial vicar at Sacred Heart in Lacey (1982–84), Assumption Parish in Seattle (1981–82) and Holy Rosary Parish in Tacoma (1980–81). He also served in the Diocese of Baker, Oregon, from 1985 to 1993.

In his last years he struggled with dementia but remained a friend to his neighbors, a frequent visitor of friends at the Palisades in Federal Way and an active walker in his neighborhood.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 7 at Holy Rosary Church in Tacoma.

Thomas E. McCarthyBELLEVUE

Thomas McCarthy, a member of St. James Cathedral in Seattle, died Aug. 13. He was 87.

Born in Rome, New York, he graduated from Niagara University in 1951 and served in the Army in Korea. He moved from Chicago to Bellevue 51 years ago.

He was involved with Catholic Community Services and the Newport Hills Community Club.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Patrick and Thomas; daughters, Mary and Carey Ann; brother, James; and five grandchildren.

A memorial Mass was celebrated Aug. 21 at St. James Cathedral.

Peter Niraj RuchiratBOTHELL

Peter Ruchirat, a member of St. Brendan Parish, died Sept. 1. He was 78.

Born in Bangkok, Thailand, he moved to Washington 52 years ago and studied business administration at Central Washington University, graduating in 1967. He lived the last 40 years in Bothell. He worked as an accounting supervisor until his retirement in 2006.

He enjoyed listening to big band music and crooners like Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra.

He is survived by his wife, Pranee; sons, Irving and Mark Ruchirat; daughter, R. Nina Ruchirat; sister, Mallika Satvinit; and three grandchildren.

A funeral mass was celebrated Sept. 6 at St. Brendan Church.
