A life of service: Father Phillip Bloom

The third son in a family of five boys and one girl, Father Phillip Bloom grew up on a dairy farm in Arlington and on Camano Island. He studied theology in Rome and was ordained at St. Peter’s Basilica. He spent seven years as a missionary in Peru, where he helped found the Mary Bloom Center (named for his mother), which is dedicated to the medical and educational needs of the poorest people in the city of Puno.

A life of service: Father Brad Hagelin

Father Brad Hagelin grew up in Seattle’s Our Lady of Fatima Parish and graduated from Seattle Prep in 2002. As a freshman at Gonzaga University, he had a powerful conversion experience, and after graduation he entered seminary for the Archdiocese of Seattle. As vicar for Catholic charities, he works to foster greater effectiveness in the Lord’s mission to the poor, calling on Catholics to be more attentive to the needs of their neighbors and to participate in the corporal works of mercy.
