Living our Year of the Eucharist with passion

Last year in August, the Pew Research Center released an alarming statistic: 69% of Catholics in the United States don’t believe Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist. In my opinion, two important factors have contributed to this faith crisis: the insufficient formation of both catechumens and catechists, and liturgical abuses that harm the holy Mass.

As we enter into a more public phase of the archdiocese’s pastoral planning process, I want to review some language. This may seem elementary, but it is important that when we hear and use certain words, we operate with common definitions.

Archbishop announces decision on Tacoma’s Holy Rosary

TACOMA – All services and ministries at Tacoma’s Holy Rosary Parish will be discontinued as of August 31, Archbishop Paul D. Etienne announced in an August 13 letter to members of the parish community. He delivered the news to the parish’s pastoral and finance councils during a Zoom meeting earlier in the day.

Archdiocese announces members of Special Taskforce for Catholic Schools

SEATTLE – The Archdiocese of Seattle has announced 10 members of a Special Taskforce for Catholic Schools, which will review the ministerial covenant that is signed by those working in the archdiocese’s Catholic schools and develop a set of recommendations for Archbishop Paul D. Etienne.

Lay Catholics named to new Archdiocesan Pastoral Council

SEATTLE – Thirteen lay Catholics and two clergy from around the Archdiocese of Seattle have been appointed to a new pastoral council that will immediately begin creating a new pastoral plan for the church in Western Washington.
