Seattle Archbishop J. Peter Sartain recognized 138 members of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Camp Fire and American Heritage Girls at a special Scout Mass May 31 for earning Catholic scouting emblems in the past year.

Also honored during the Mass at St. James Cathedral in Seattle were Sharon Moulds of St. Joseph Parish in Issaquah and Ellen Dougherty of St. Olaf in Poulsbo, who each received the St. George Emblem given to adults for extraordinary service to Catholic scouts’ spiritual development.

The “National Catholic Quality Unit Award – Pope Paul VI” award went to Cub Scout Pack 370 from Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Vancouver and to Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack 18 from St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Everett. For the fourth time in five years, the Seattle Archdiocese’s Committee on Catholic Scouting received the “Quality Diocese Award.” It is only one of two dioceses in its scouting region to get the award this year.
