Father Ford served as pastor at San Roque from 1994 until his retirement in 2005, after he had served six years as pastor of Our Lady of Peace.Born March 6, 1940 in Los Angeles, he attended Chaminade High School, Queen of Angels Junior Seminary and St. John’s Seminary. He was ordained to the priesthood by Cardinal James Francis McIntyre April 30, 1966, and assigned as an associate pastor to Holy Family Cathedral, Orange.As an associate pastor, Father Ford also served at Our Lady of Lourdes, Northridge; St. Raphael, Goleta; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Santa Barbara; San Buenaventura Mission, Ventura; and St. Rose of Lima, Simi Valley, where he served six years before being named pastor at Our Lady of Peace in July 1988.At San Roque, Father Ford oversaw the renovation of the worship space, and regarded parish work as his great love. He also was active in animal rescue efforts and was a classic car enthusiast.He is survived by his sister, Joanne Lopez-Rojas; brother-in-law Delfino Lopez-Rojas, and several nieces, a nephew and great-nieces and nephews. Carroll, longtime priest of the archdiocese, who died May 26 at age 67.A native of Mill Street, County Cork, Ireland, he attended All Hallows College Seminary in Dublin and was ordained June 18, 1967 for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and served in parish, school and hospital ministry for more than 40 years.As an associate pastor, Father Carroll served at St. Anselm, St. Brendan and St. Michael, Los Angeles; Santa Teresita, East L.A.; St. John Baptist de La Salle, Granada Hills; and St. Luke, Temple City. He also was an educator at St. Michael and Bishop Conaty-Our Lady of Loreto High Schools, Los Angeles, and a chaplain at St. Mary Medical Center, Long Beach (1982-93).He served five years as pastor of St. Lorenzo Ruiz Church, Walnut (2000-05), and later served as an associate at St. Mary Magdalen and Blessed Junípero Serra, Camarillo, and as administrator pro-tem at St. Maximillian Kolbe, Westlake Village. He was most recently senior priest at St. Julie Billiart.Father Carroll is survived by his brother, retired Bishop Timothy Joseph Carroll of Kontagora, Nigeria; his sisters Margaret O’Doherty and Mary Fennessy; and many nieces and nephews. Condolence cards may be sent to Bishop Carroll in care of St. Julie Billiart Church, 2475 Borchard Rd., Newbury Park, CA 91320.Sr. Angela Nowak, RSHMFuneral Mass was held April 20 at Sacred Heart of Mary Chapel in Montebello, for Sister Angela Nowak, a Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for 63 years, who died on April 14 at age 99.Sister Nowak was born in Texas, one of 11 children, and later moved to California and worked in East Los Angeles where she met the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary. She entered the community and made her novitiate in Tarrytown, N.Y. She returned to California and spent the next 58 years in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Her ministry of hospitality took her to Marymount High School, Westwood and Santa Barbara: Corvallis, St. Patrick’s, SHM Convents, and the Community Center.She endeared herself to faculty, students, friends, with her inquiring and outgoing personality, her generosity and hospitality, her interest in everyone and her sense of humor. She is survived by two brothers, many nieces and nephews. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Los Angeles.
