SEATTLE – Volunteers at Our Lady of Fatima Parish are helping residents of the St. Martin de Porres Shelter in downtown Seattle stay safe from COVID-19.

For the past seven years, I have walked the nighttime streets, alleys, parks and “jungles” of Seattle with the Operation Nightwatch ministry team. I’ve probably met well over 1,000 of our brothers and sisters experiencing homelessness, and I am privileged to call many of them friends.

SEATTLE – Every evening from October through April, Catholics at several local parishes quietly serve homeless men by giving them a warm place to sleep.

KIRKLAND – Three years after the idea of helping homeless families on the Eastside took root at two area parishes, construction is beginning on a 24-7 shelter to serve families and single women experiencing homelessness.

KIRKLAND – Dan Daring and his family of three adults and five kids were homeless and desperately trying to stay together after being evicted. Because Daring was employed, the family didn’t qualify for assistance programs, and local homeless shelters served either single men or women with children.

SEATTLE – A group of justice-minded volunteers at Our Lady of the Lake Parish dedicated part of their weekends in July to build a “tiny house” for a homeless person.

VANCOUVER – Once a year, visitors to St. Joseph Parish’s Marian Hall can get a haircut, try on a new pair of shoes and access housing, job and counseling services from over 75 providers around the region.
