Maria Clever, a member of Holy Family Parish, died Sept. 18, of pneumonia. She was 90.

She was born in Segundo, Colorado. Prior to moving to Seattle 48 years ago, she lived in Denver. During World War II she worked in administrative support in the U.S. Army Air Corps. She later worked as a seamstress.

She and her husband were members of West Side Wheelers, a square dancing group.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd. Survivors include her sons, Charles, Alan and James; daughter, Janet Hansen; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 23 at Holy Family Church.

Mary Flatley DeniseEVERETT

Mary Denise, a member of Holy Rosary Parish, died July 25. She was 99.

She was born in Richmond, Indiana. After moving to Washington state, she lived in Seattle and Edmonds before moving to Everett seven years ago. She worked in accounting at AAA and Virginia Mason Hospital before retiring in 1975.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack. Survivors include her daughter, Diane Hover; sister, Helen Clooney; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.

Sister Dorothy Klingele, S.P. (Sister Mary Borgia)SEATTLE

Sister Dorothy Klingele, a member of the Sisters of Providence for 64 years, died Oct. 15. She was 90.

She was born and raised in Yakima. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy and was awarded a two-year scholarship to Providence College in Great Falls, Montana.

In 1947 she received a bachelor's degree in chemistry, and in 1949 a bachelor's degree in medical technology from Seattle University. She received a master's degree in research biochemistry and a Ph.D. in biology genetics from the University of Norte Dame. In 1975 she was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship in medical genetics from the University of Oregon Medical School in Portland.

She entered the Sisters of Providence in 1951 in Seattle. She professed final vows in 1956. She began her ministry as a medical technology researcher in 1953 at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. She also held various positions in Spokane, Issaquah and Portland.

She served on the Snohomish County Council and Everett’s Senior Center Executive Advisory Board and as a member of the board of Providence Hospital in Everett. She published numerous medical science articles and received honors including listing in “Who’s Who in American Women” and “American Men and Women of Science.”

In December 2007 she retired to St. Joseph Residence. She enjoyed photography, hiking and traveling. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Edward Carroll of Yakima; and nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 24 at St. Joseph Residence.

Joseph MahoneyFEDERAL WAY

Joseph Mahoney, a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, died Oct. 11, of heart failure. He was 85.

He was born in Buffalo, New York. After moving to Washington state, he worked as a postal worker at the Bulk Mail Service Center in Federal Way before retiring in 1992.

He was very active at his parish, serving as a lector and bringing Communion to the homebound.

He enjoyed reading, bike riding and performing as a clown at parish picnics.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Fisk Mahoney; son, Marc; daughters, Maia Adsley, Marijo Mahoney and Mindy Mason; sister, Sister Carol Mahoney; and two grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 21 at St. Vincent de Paul Church.
