Northwest Catholic asked young adults: Why are you Catholic? Read their responses below:

I’m Catholic because of the wonderful example my parents set for me growing up. Our family life centered around prayer. … Not only was my faith nurtured at home, but I was blessed by my Catholic education from kindergarten through high school. I’m thankful to teach in a Catholic school where I can nurture the faith of my students.

Agnes Burns | All Saints Parish, Puyallup

I’ve been Catholic my whole life, but I haven’t  chosen to remain Catholic simply because “I always have been.” I am Catholic because I believe in the Church’s teachings, the traditions that connect us to years and years of Christians that came before us, and being part of a bigger group that spreads love and charity throughout the world. Being Catholic isn’t   just something I believe in, it’s part of who I am.

The sense of   community and  belonging.

Jennifer Simek Hunt | St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Carnation

Because of Jesus’ real presence in the Eucharist. I can never go anywhere else as long as the Eucharist is in every tabernacle, in every church in the world!

Allison Foguth | Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish, Bremerton

Catholicism introduced me to Jesus and  helps me to know and follow him.

Andrew Donnelly | University of Washington Newman Center, Seattle

Faith and reason. The Eucharist called me  home to Mother Church. I studied my way out of Protestantism. Catholicism is the fullness   of truth.
